Cooling Poses For Summer 

At the Beach or at Home


    Summer is a wonderful time of year, but at times the sun and heat can be physically and mentally exhausting.  Some of the best "cooling" poses are forward bends.  They are calming and rejuvenating and can help lower blood pressure and anxiety, allowing your body to cool and release tensions. Whether you're on the beach or at home, instead of cranking up the A/C, find a quiet spot on the beach (or a shady, quiet spot at home) and try these yoga poses to cool your body and mind.


Forward Fold (Uttanasana):

Stand tall in mountain pose, feet planted firmly in the beach sand.  Take a deep breath, and as you exhale gently

swan dive your upper body as you hinge forward at the hips, bending your knees to protect your back if needed.  Legs stay firm and grounded as your upper body melts - let your head and arms go heavy. After 3 long slow deep breaths, slowly come up again and repeat 3 times.

 

Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana):

From Forward Fold, bend your knees, walk your hands forward on the ground and your feet back until you are in an inverted "V" shape. Press your palms into the beach and walk and stretch your heels down one at a time. Your dog will want to definitely help you with this pose.


Childs pose (Balasana):

From Downward Dog, end with bending your knees to the ground, placing hips back over heels and stretching arms forward, forehead towards the ground.

 

Move and breath slowly through the poses, or just rest in your favorite pose. Watch your breath and use it to slow down. Your body and mind will respond with renewed energy and ability to adjust to summer heat!

Teacher Training 2011 - 2012

Meet Karen Pace, Director, as well as our other faculty members and recent graduates to learn more about Synergy's  nine-month intensive Teacher Training Program, starting in September.

 

Whether you are aspiring to deepen your own personal practice or to become a certified yoga teacher, Synergy Yoga Studio's 200 hour Teacher Training Program is designed to provide you with the solid foundations for hatha yoga theories and practice. The program will be held in Synergy Yoga Studio's supportive and nurturing environment, where the faculty will encourage students to find their individual teaching voice and fill it with confidence and mindfulness. This program meets the standards and guidelines of the National Yoga Alliance, allowing our graduates to nationally register as 200-hour yoga teachers at the completion of the program (RYT 200).

Special Summer Sunday Class

 

Bring a friend for only $5 and join us every Sunday at 2 pm for a special class. Only $5.00 each (Free and open to anyone with Unlimited Pass or making up a Session class.)
